“It’s surely our responsibility to do everything within our power to create a planet that provides a home not just for us, but for all life on Earth.” – David Attenborough.
I am an aspiring artist living in South Africa, Gqeberha. As a Nelson Mandela University Honours student graduate in painting, my work depicts environmental themes. My work in 2023, focused on the mycorrhizal network connection as a visual metaphor for the interconnectedness between humans and the natural environment. I enjoy working with oil and acrylic and creating tangible surfaces combining found objects within my works. I have always found joy in producing art but really found my passion for art in high school studying Visual Art as a subject. The natural world inspires me. I have a love and curiosity towards nature and grew up hiking and watching nature documentaries. Watching these documentaries now as an adult, compared to when I was a child is a very different experience. The magical world that I once saw is slowly declining. The planet’s ecosystems and natural environment is deteriorating due to the impact of humans. My goal through my art is to create awareness of environmental issues and the interconnectedness of humans and nature, hopefully making a positive difference in the future for our environment.
